Asaf Sagiv’s debut solo album IMA is a sacred work made for his late mother

Osnat Sagiv (born Sabina Perelman). The album features selected singers from

LA Phil &  Los Angeles Master Chorale conducted by Jenny Wong, American Contemporary Music Ensemble (ACME) string quartet, Daniela Mars and more.

IMA moves through Sagiv’s orchestral and chamber writing, electronic textures, and field recordings - including sounds from deep inside the Earth, NASA transmissions, and the inner body of a pregnant woman - alongside his mother’s voice.

Themes of transformation, death and rebirth, the mother-child bond, grief and reconciliation, absence and presence; love, time, memory, the soul and the cosmos - move through it and from it. Musical themes move and unfold, ever-changing in the IMA living universe. A deeply personal yet universally meaningful, IMA can be seen as a rebirth. A labor of  love.

IMA was recorded in resonant churches and halls across NY, LA and a brutalist sanctuary found in Köln Germany - chosen for their natural acoustics and resonance; a subtle through line woven into the arc of Sagiv’s voice and evolving body of work.

IMA brings together some of today’s most respected, distinct voices of contemporary classics including: ACME Strings Quartet; violinists Yuki Numata Resnick, Ben Russel, violist Caleb Burhans, cellist and founders Clarice Jensen; First Dome Chamber Choir conducted by Los Angeles Master Chorale associate artistic director and San Francisco Symphony chorus director Jenny Wong; LA Phil’s lead soprano Kelci Hahn; LA Master Chorale's lead soprano soloist Suzanne Waters ; vocalist and soprano soloist Tammy Scheffer; contrabass flutist Daniela Mars; LA Chamber Orchestra’s (LACO) principal clarinetist Joshua Ranz; pipe organist and celesta player Stephen Karr; and world winds player Ashley Jarmack.
